It's almost 420, World Cannabis Day, which is held on 4/20. Every year, cannabis enthusiasts meet up at 4:20 in the afternoon on 4/20 to celebrate worldwide, from Hyde Park in London and Washington Square Park in New York to Martin Place in Sydney. We would like to take this opportunity to explain the benefits of Cannabis sativa vegetable oil, used in our Shower Gel.

First of all, what is vegetable oil?

Vegetable oil is extracted from seeds. This includes olive oil, sunflower oil, etc. The seeds are pressed to extract oil, which is then used for cooking, cosmetics and other purposes! Each plant has specific properties, just like each one of you has your own tastes. Vegetable oil must not be confused with essential oil. Essential oil is a liquid extract obtained by steam distillation of plant materials. These are thus 2 different oils with very distinctive uses! In other words, do NOT cook your pasta with essential oil.

What is hemp or Cannabis sativa vegetable oil?

Cannabis sativa is the botanical name for hemp, with which you are obviously familiar. Hemp has been used for making clothing and sheets since at least 8,000 BC. Rembrandt and Velázquez used hemp canvases for their paintings, due to their resistance to heat, humidity, insects and light. To produce vegetable oil from Cannabis sativa or hemp, the plant’s seeds are pressed in order to extract the oil. Like all oils, it is yellow green in colour. Moreover, it smells like freshly cut grass with a small spicy touch. It is a rather dry oil, which is easily absorbed by the skin. The seeds used for cosmetics do not contain THC, the psychotropic drug found in the plant in its natural state.

Is hemp or Cannabis sativa oil truly beneficial?

This oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 and is one of the vegetable oils that contains the highest amount of essential fatty acids. It is great for replenishing moisture and regenerating dry, dehydrated and irritated skin. Thanks to its composition, which is quite similar to the skin's lipids, it is extremely effective in rehydrating and regenerating the skin's natural hydrolipidic film. As a dry oil, it penetrates the skin without leaving a greasy film. It also nourishes hair and restores shine, without leaving it feeling oily. This makes it ideal for use on dry, brittle and dull hair.
