For a softer beard.

Bearded men know the struggle. Beards always end up itchy. But shaving everything and calling it quits with your facial hair isn’t the only way to find relief. There are so many ways to take care of your beard, like brushing, washing, hydrating, and exfoliating it. When it itches, it’s best to address the problem directly via your beard care routine. Goodbye coarse hair and itching, hello silky soft beard!

Why do beards itch?

When you have a beard, it’s completely normal for it to feel itchy when it grows. There are several reasons for this unpleasant feeling.

Wherever the beard is on its growth journey, there’s always a moment when it feels spikey. If you don’t feel an itchy sensation when your beard grows, it’s simply because your beard hairs are much thicker than the hair on your head. That’s why when your beard grows, it regularly causes skin reactions that we would rather do without.

If your skin is dry and irritated, itchiness will very quickly be felt. When you have dry skin, it’s in your best interest to redouble your attention and take care of your beard to avoid more discomfort. What’s more, these irritations can also be the cause of the appearance of dandruff. The snowy beard effect does very little for us. The good news is that with the right habits and a few good products, it’s possible to put an end to itchy beards and unsightly flakes.

Use a beard brush

The first step to tame the hairs and calm the itching is to brush your beard. A mess of hair can also cause unpleasant sensations: itching, tingling, etc. Wait before whipping out the clippers and razors. Try taming your beard first with a beard brush or comb and reap all the benefits of a good brushing session. You'll soon be done with the wild bushy look - and with it, the itch.

You should brush your beard when it’s dry, in the morning and evening, whether it’s short or long. Keeping up this habit will eliminate dead skin and reduce feelings of discomfort. For an extra touch of care, add a few drops of oil onto your brush for an instant softness boost to a beard that’s feeling a little too coarse.

Regularly exfoliate your skin

Exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells that brushing wasn’t enough to remove. Plus, it stimulates blood circulation. Another bonus of exfoliating is that it also solves the problem of those for whose “itchy beard” goes hand in hand with the appearance of dandruff

What’s more, by using a scrub that’s suitable for beards, hair growth is stimulated and cell renewal is improved. Exfoliation should be done before shampooing to get rid of all dead skin and impurities while helping to prevent getting ingrown hairs. In short, exfoliating is a fast and easy step to achieving a nicer beard.

Use beard shampoo

A beard is meant to be treated like hair. Using a shampoo is therefore an essential step. No need, however, to rush to any shampoo. It should be soft and suitable for your beard. Facial skin is more sensitive than the scalp, and hair shampoos are often too harsh to use on your face.

To respect the sensitivity of the epidermis and avoid accentuating any itchiness, it’s necessary to use a mild shampoo, designed for beards, two to three times a week.

Take the opportunity to give it a good massage. In addition to eliminating any dead skin that remained after the exfoliation, a massage will further stimulate growth. Be careful, don’t forget that using water that’s too hot attacks the skin. So go easy on the temperature.

Hydrate and nourish your beard

Whether you’re a fan of shaving or growing a beard, whether short or long, hydration is the step you should never, ever skip out on. Now that we know that the feeling of an itchy beard comes from dry, irritated or damaged skin, we know we can’t ignore caring for it. In addition, good hydration will bring more softness to your hairs to put an end to any badly pruned bush effect you might have going on.

For short beards, applying the same moisturiser you use on your face in the morning and evening is sufficient. For long beards, on the other hand, opt for an oil that hydrates the skin under your beard while nourishing and fixing stubborn hairs.

For an in-depth treatment, the beard oil can also be used as an overnight treatment. Simply apply it to the beard and leave it on while you sleep before rinsing it with shampoo the next morning.

To sum it up, if you want to put an end to the itchy beard, it’s impossible to skip out on a care routine for it. So put down the razor you had brandished and try to tame it a little more before shaving everything off!
