Once you've taken the hair removal plunge, there's always the fear of irritation and discomfort in the hair-free zone. The editorial team at Horace offers advice on how to best care for your skin after depilation.
If you've already tried hair removal, whether on your buttocks, chest, legs or pubic area, you know all too well that burning sensation and irritation that you feel when your hair starts to grow back. Follow the advice below to keep it to a minimum. Spoiler alert: the key is to moisturise!
Before any type of hair removal, it’s also important to cleanse the skin well.
We recommend that you thoroughly cleanse the hair removal area before you start, whether you're using clippers or a razor (with a depilatory cream). To do so, choose a gentle cleanser that doesn’t cause irritation and avoid all alcohol-based products. You can also take a hot bath or shower, as heat helps dilate skin pores. Another option to facilitate the hair removal process is to use our exfoliating soap bar in the shower. If you choose to use a razor, you can also shave directly in the shower.
Optimally moisturise skin after hair removal
This is the most important step after any type of hair removal procedure. Moisturising and nourishing your skin with a nourishing moisturiser will help keep it healthy and allow you to more quickly recover from the discomfort that may be caused by depilation. In case of irritation, we recommend that you use an anti-inflammatory cream. In less extreme cases, you can also soothe irritation using a flannel filled with ice cubes. The other risk is the appearance of ingrown hair, which you can prevent by applying a benzoyl peroxide-based solution, easily found in chemists' shops. The choice is yours!
