Discover the secrets of one of the main ingredients of our purifying face mask.

Where does it come from?

The everlasting flower, (also known as “immortelle” or “sea lavender”), is a perennial plant with small, very resistant blue flowers. It grows by the sea, particularly in the salt marshes of the Camargue region. There are hundreds of varieties and colours from blue to yellow to white, but only 5 or 6 of these produce an essential oil with proven benefits. The blue everlasting flower makes the cut thanks to a unique self-protection system it has developed to survive under the sun of Provence.

What it does to your skin

The extract of blue everlasting flowers is loaded with the antioxidant vitamin E, as well as fats and sugars known to promote healthy cell renewal. In our purifying face mask, it helps fight the oxidation of skin cells caused by free radicals, and helps keep skin firm and supple. And since wrinkles have a harder time making their mark on supple, bouncy skin, skin looks younger. Yes, this tiny little flower is a powerful ally when it comes to taking care of your face!

Free radicals: what are they?

Each of us has a number of hours of sun exposure we can tolerate according to our skin type. Beyond this limit, skin becomes damaged, and problems can occur. Sunlight can be an effective cure for seasonal depression, and a great help when it comes to regulating our body clocks, but it can pose a real danger to your skin. The sun’s ultraviolet(UV) rays activate the synthesis of melanin and generate the production of free radicals. These free radicals attack the cells in the epidermis, destroying membranes and damaging connective tissue. This is known as oxidative stress. With continued exposure, damage increases and can even become irreparable. This causes premature aging, and puts us at a higher risk of developing skin cancer.

And these harmful free radicals aren’t just generated by the sun. Pollution, tobacco, excess alcohol or rich food all contribute to oxidation, creating this dangerous oxidative stress and leading to premature aging.

Protecting against this is important. This is why the blue everlasting flower is one of the star ingredients of our purifying face mask, protecting your skin from the oxidative stress caused by free radicals and ensuring clear, firm, radiant skin!
