The off-beard rule.

Where should a beard stop? The question divides the closely shaven (who picked their team to not have to care about it) and the long beard enthusiasts. In order to avoid the caveman effect, a beard has to be mastered. Let’s determine how much.

Of course, the length of a beard depends on the style you’re going for. Certain fiction characters such as Gandalf or professor Dumbledore have made their long beard a strength. If with a lot of audacity, you decide to look like them, it is perfectly acceptable to let it grow to your chest. In all other cases, it’s better to remain reasonable.

Not too close, nor too far

The “druid” effect isn’t the most popular, especially in the office - and not the easiest to pull off. For all the men hesitating between stubble and a fully-grown beard, maintenance and cutting are indispensable. The exercise is risky. If you decide to stop your beard too close to your jawline, you risk a double chin effect, even if you don’t have a double chin. Too low and you risk your neck looking like a battlefield where hair has taken over. What would one think about your management skills if you can’t even impose your will to your own hairs ?

The point of reference

Take your Adam’s apple as a point of reference. Place two fingers just above, and draw an imaginary line that would link your ears to the top of your fingers (no need to draw a real line, that would be ridiculous). The imaginary line should form a U-shape. Below it, eliminate all the hairs. Yes, all of them.

To eliminate offside hairs, grab a razor and a little shaving cream. It is the most efficient way to eliminate all signs of excess pilosity.

However, on top, don’t remove anything, as you might fall in the beard necklace trap. The only possible and recommended action is to cut your hairs with a trimmer with the fixed length of your choice.

The finishing touches

Once your bead is perfectly cut, it is indispensable to finish the work. Remove the remaining hairs wandering on your cheeks here and there, to finish the work. Apply some hydrating cream where you shaved, a little beard oil on your freshly cut beard and smile. You’re ready.

You now know where to stop. Does it seem too complicated? Good, it might be time to shave it off completely.
