Our superfatted soap bars are 99.9% natural and preservative-free, so here are a few tips to make them last as long as possible.
Start with the basics
The fundamental rule to prevent your soap from melting or becoming soft and sticky is to keep it away from moisture. “And how exactly am I supposed to do that in my bathroom?” you might say. Easy. To avoid this unpleasant mushiness, keep your solid soap away from your shower’s water jet and water splashes from your sink.
A cool, dry place
You should also avoid leaving your bar of soap near a heat source such as a radiator or in the sun behind a window. This will melt your soap and make it sticky. Instead, choose a high-up shelf or leave it behind your shower curtain.
The golden rule is to let your soap dry between uses. Granted, it’s not the easiest thing to do when you've become addicted to its fragrance and wash your hands with it 14 times a day… Try giving it a little break, this will allow you to enjoy it for even longer!
The right dish
When it comes to making your soap last, your best friend is a soap dish with drain holes. It allows all sides of your soap to dry between uses and doesn’t retain moisture. If you’re looking for a natural dish, choose slate. It’s a material that dries very quickly and evacuates water. Between each use, avoid keeping your soap in a box. This traps the moisture in and thereby accelerates the soap’s decay and the formation of bacteria in the stagnant water.
On the road
If you decide to go on a trip without your bar of soap, leave it on its side so that it doesn't stick to the surface you left it on. You can also slide a piece of baking paper (like the ones you used to make your banana bread during lockdown) to prevent stickiness.
If you decide to take your superfatted soap bar with you, choose a perforated box to carry it in. These holes will allow moisture to escape. Don't forget to dab your soap with a towel before putting it in its transport box. You can also find waterproof pouches made of recycled fabric, which are environmentally friendly and take up less space in your luggage!
No wasting!
After several weeks of use, your soap bar will start breaking up into small pieces. Don’t worry, all is not lost! Gather these bits of soap and put them in a pot. Melt them over low heat until you get a homogeneous paste. Pour this paste into a mould of your choice, let it dry, and then unmould. Let it dry again in the open air and the next day you’ll have an almost new bar of soap! If you do decide to recycle your soap, we’d really like to see the results!
If you follow the advice we listed above, our superfatted soap bars should last up to 1 month and a half while remaining effective. We’re counting on you!
