Do you have holes in your beard and wonder where they come from? And above all, you are wondering what you can do about them? Horace gives you the some tips.
The hair's ABC is to know that hair comes and grows from the hair follicle. Hair growth is divided into three stages. The first stage is called "anagen", when the hair comes out of the skin. The second is called "catagen" and represents the period when the hair grows and ages. Finally, the last phase is called "telogen" and covers the moment when the hair dies and is replaced. Then we are back for another ride.
Where do the holes in the beard come from?
If you have holes in your beard, it doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have a hair follicle in the area in question. It is possible that the follicle is not producing hair because it is not "activated".
The number of hair follicles also depends on genetics. In other words, refer to your male family circle to understand your hairiness. But don't take this for a general truth, each one has his own sensitivities: we don't all have the same growth cycles. Hair growth is also governed by your age and the level of testosterone in your body.
Blame it on diseases?
If you notice holes in your beard, it may be due to a skin disease. The most common is alopecia. Not serious and often caused by stress, taking medication or badly cared for teeth, it is a chronic inflammatory reaction that manifests itself by the stopping of the growth of several hairs on a specific area of the face. This anomaly can last several months between the telogen phase and the new anagen phase. The hair therefore does not grow back immediately, and you end up with holes.
Do you have holes in your beard at the level of scars? This is normal, it is called scarring alopecia. It is caused by a trauma - such as a cut or burn. The hair follicle is destroyed and the hair cannot grow back. It's up to you to tell a story about the reasons for the hole.
There is also an inflammation of the hair follicles in the beard called folliculitis. Folliculitis is bacterial, just like dermatophyte, caused by specific fungi on the skin. For these, contact a pharmacist, they will disappear within a few weeks with a light treatment.
Much less commonly, you may have holes in your beard because you are suffering from trichotillomania. Behind this name lies a temporary satisfaction you feel when you pull out your hair: if you have this condition, you certainly know why you have holes.
And the solutions?
The first way to take care of your beard and avoid holes is to have a healthy lifestyle and a correct care routine. A balanced diet, drinking enough water (1.5 litres a day), sleeping and exercising will help you to have a healthy beard and thus, in the long run, a fuller beard. A proper diet provides beards with vitamins, minerals and protein. Exercising increases the level of testosterone, which, when low, is often responsible for hair deficiencies.
Exfoliation is another natural way to correct holes in the beard. You can apply our face scrub to the desert area to remove dead cells that could obstruct the follicle and thus "free" the hair.
You can then use castor oil to moisturise. It is known to promote growth (although it is not a miracle ingredient) and stimulate the hair follicle. The beard will then be more organised and dense, with the oil helping to make your hair thick and supple. Massage your beard, focusing on hairless areas, daily with a few drops of our beard oil containing castor oil, such as ours. This new ritual will reactivate the skin microcirculation and thus improve the irrigation of the hair root.
The subterfuges
There are even smarter ways to camouflage a hole in the beard. If you have a certain length, brush it out. The areas provided will then be able to hide those that are less so.
The ideal is to be an observant hair by being attentive to your establishment. You can adopt a style that fits best with the thinner areas. Let it grow to fill in the area or even it out to make it disappear.
