Obviously, when you come back from vacation, you dream of keeping your tan around for as long as possible. That’s why we're here to let you know how to keep your skin looking divinely sun-kissed until the end of autumn - or just long enough to make your colleagues jealous.
The big cleanse
A few days after your return from vacation, the first thing to do is to exfoliate your skin. Since your skin is already weakened by the sun, choose a Gentle Face Scrub that’s not too harsh. Perform the operation twice a week. Exfoliating removes dead skin that dulls your complexion, maintaining the radiance of your tanned skin. Pretty simple.
100% hydration
To make tanned skin last as long as possible, focus on hydration in all its forms. First and foremost, obviously, is consuming water in large quantities which works not only to keep your body hydrated but your skin cells too.
If your skin is moisturised well, it won’t dry out. You’ll keep your tanned pigmentation and avoid peeling. Using a Nourishing Body Lotion is particularly recommended. Also, if your skin is particularly dry, use an after-sun moisturiser loaded with mineral salts to recompensate what you lost when you blazed in the sun.
In the shower
Taking care of your skin and maintaining your tan also involves showering. At first, avoid baths and showers that are too hot. Warm or even cold water tones the skin and activates the cells that will work to keep the epidermis (the top layer of your skin) well hydrated. Use a non-stripping shower gel to stay perfectly hydrated. When you get out of the shower, remember to dab yourself with your towel instead of rubbing your skin. This will avoid irritating your skin.
Eat well, tan better (and longer)
In the summer, nature offers us foods that are rich in vitamin E. That’s ideal since it’s the vitamin that promotes tanning. Eating carotenoids (foods that are red or orange in colour) help to maintain your tan naturally. Don’t skimp on tomatoes, apricots, melons, or sweet potatoes and watermelons. They boost the production of melanin, which is responsible for our tanned complexion. If you're not a fan of fruits and veggies, you can also cheat a little by boosting your melanin with tanning capsules that contain combinations of beta-carotene and antioxidants.
Vacation time is over? What end of the holidays? ;)
