A few simple tips to wash, strengthen and style your hair.
Whether it’s straight or curly, you can be bothered by your fine hair that lacks volume and can turn out to be fragile.
Why hair can be fine
Fine hair has a smaller diameter than normal or thick hair, which makes it more fragile. This is usually due to genetic factors since these code their number, thickness and curliness. They’re thickness is closer to 0,04 than 0,1mm on the average range of hair thickness depending on individuals.
On top of being individually fine, there can also be fewer of them. If we count between 100 000 and 150 000 hairs on men’s heads, some can both be on the lower end of the spectrum as well as have a thin diameter. Over time, hair can also be sparse and let the scalp show little by little or even forecast baldness. To counteract this, it is important to look after it by following a few simple steps.
Washing hair less often, for their own good
Since fine hair is fragile, it often needs to be washed with even more care. Limiting shampoos to one to three times a week helps preserving hair which is less likely to shed and the scalp which produces less sebum. In his routine, Marc Beyner-Sonier told us he washes his fine hair once a week so it remains healthy.
Contrarily to aggressive sulfates, a mild shampoo will wash it gently. The red ginseng contained in ours favours the growth of stronger and more resistant hair, while babassu oil protects and nourishes the hair fibre and the scalp. It doesn’t contain any silicones or parabens, ingredients that are suspected of weighing down and drying out hair.
Strengthening hair with the help of conditioner
Following a wash, conditioner is left a few minutes on hair and scalp in order to strengthen them. The red ginseng helps stimulate the scalp and improve the health of your hair. Castor oil strengthens them, while kokum and shea butters hydrate and nourish to reveal softness and natural shine. There is no risk of weighing it down since this product is rinsed off after three minutes to reveal hair that is stronger and easier to style.
Once a week, when you have the time, you can provide deeper care to your hair with a mask containing proteins in order to strengthen keratin. It will make it less vulnerable to externals aggressions. You can do it before your shampoo to make sure it rinses off well, after the recommended application time, to avoid weighing it down.
Drying your hair upside down to raise the volume
The drying step plays a big role in giving volume to hair. Since rubbing it with a towel weakens it and speeds up the loss of the most fragile hairs, blotting your hair dry with a microfibre towel to remove excess moisture is a better idea.
Once pre-dried with a towel, you can either let it air-dry to preserve its health and obtain volume or finish with a hairdryer. Keeping your head upside down while lifting off the hair from the roots with your fingers and drying hair with a low temperature gives it maximum volume without damaging it. No more pancake-flat hair.
Well-dosed hair styling product to boost density
Texturising styling spray brings density to hair. The salt is contains gives it that “just got back from the beach” look, while glycerine, panthenol and acacia care for hair in the process. This ultra-light styling product can be combined with a wax’s strong hold or the moderate hold from cream that fine hair can use sparingly. These two styling products use natural waxes that contribute to structure and strengthen the hair fibre to give it more body.
An adapted haircut to flatter it
Globally, haircuts with two different lengths give fine hair relief and movement, therefore an impression of density. All types of undercuts (meaning sheared mostly on the sides and back of head rather than on top) flatter this type of hair. Totally shaved heads eliminate the problem with ease.
Since it is impossible to fatten up your hair, it is in your best interest to look after it to strengthen it without weighing it down and fool nature thanks to a few techniques and well-dosed styling products. You’ll be crowned with success.
