Summer will be hot, your hair will be flawless.
On vacation, we like to enjoy the sun and all its wonders. Of course, you wouldn't think of basking in the sun without protecting your skin. But while you’re protecting your skin, you might not realize that your hair suffers just as much from UVA rays. What’s more we’re all susceptible to sunburning our scalps. Many of us spend days at the beach without hats or any form of hair protection. What a mistake.
We’re here to help you take care of your hair in the summer so you can avoid coming home from vacation with damaged hair and a painful red scalp.
Before sun exposure
Before your vacation, prepare your hair for the sun it will face. Since UVA rays damage the keratin of your hair by penetrating them deeply, it’s better to prevent this intrusion. Opt for botanical oils. Ylang ylang, coconut, and raspberry seed oils are rich oils that are ideal for protecting your hair. By applying one of these oils the day before your exposure to the sun, you’re endowing your precious hair with natural sun protection.
How does it work? Just leave the oil on all night on your lengths (not at the roots, to prevent it from weighing it down). Then rinse when you wake up. Even if you have a sustained bathing rhythm, performing this operation once a week is sufficient.
If you have an oily hair type, keep in mind that oils may weigh it down. Instead, opt for sun sprays that have a light and non-sticky texture. Apply just before sunbathing, and repeat the operation after each exit from the water. There are also sunscreens specially formulated for hair that are good for all hair types, including oily hair.
Unlike oils, these creams are leave-in and won’t weigh down hair. Don't want to use sunscreen on your hair? That’s your right. You can always opt for headgear. Whether it's a baseball cap or a straw hat, what’s important is that it's opaque enough to protect your hair from damage.
After swimming
After a dip in the sea, it’s important to rinse with clean water to prevent all the salt from sticking to your scalp before it dehydrates your hair and leaves it rough and brittle.
To limit the impact of a summer day outside, the process is pretty straightforward. First, wash your hair with a Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair to remove impurities. If you haven’t gone swimming, keep a rhythm of shampooing every two or three days. Then, nourish your hair with a Strengthening Conditioner to detangle and prevent it from drying out. Conclude with a good blast of cold water. This habit helps tighten the scales of your hair - while giving you a refreshing energy boost when summer is in full swing. Once you’re out of the shower, let your hair air dry. Why? First, because using a hair dryer would be more aggressive. Also, because the heat will help it dry quickly either way. Lastly, if you need to style your hair, opt for a styling product with moisturising ingredients. You can also let your hair breathe. It’ll thank you.
On your plate
In summer, as all year round, your diet plays a role in the health of your hair. As luck would have it, the products we like to consume in the summer are pretty ideal for protecting your hair from the aggressions of the sun. Consuming fish offers the necessary proteins for your hair, meanwhile orange fruits and veggies, rich in carotene, will help protect your hair from the sun and give it strength. So turn to melons, peaches, carrots, peppers, and apricots. With that said, we trust your eyes will be able to choose your diet well.
In the summertime, our hair is subjected to many environmental factors like salt, sun, chlorine, and wind that tend to discolor, dehydrate, and weaken your strands. To enjoy the holidays, protect them.
