Today we're talking about dandruff. We tell you everything you need to know to make them a thing of the past.
On our Facebook group, Flo Cqt asked us for advice on how to use our anti-dandruff shampoo and tips for getting rid of dandruff.
What is dandruff?
First of all, we can legitimately wonder about the origin of dandruff. Dandruff is dead skin that corresponds to an excessive and too rapid renewal of the epidermis of the scalp. Very frequent, it is more often an aesthetic problem than a real major symptom.
There are two types of dandruff: dry dandruff - which is, as we used to say, dead skin particles - and oily dandruff, which is generally due to an excess of sebum (greasy hair). They are the most dangerous for the hair because they suffocate the roots and can accelerate hair loss. Above all, they cause itching and can trigger psoriasis. And no one likes to scratch their head.
What causes dandruff?
There are several causes of dandruff. Some you can influence and some are just bad luck or an uncontrollable external force.
A poor diet can lead to dandruff. Too much fat, sugar and salt alter the quality of skin secretions, which are essential for the scalp. Overly aggressive hair treatments, such as the repeated use of a hot hair dryer or the use of harsh shampoos formulated with sulphates, can also contribute to the development of dandruff. Repeatedly wearing hats, caps and bonnets can also contribute to dandruff: it is important to let your hair breathe. Stress, which is both a trigger and an aggravating factor, is also a cause that should not be overlooked, as is heavy alcohol consumption. By regulating your diet and alcohol intake, as well as taking special care in how you treat your hair, you can limit this problem.
Climate and pollution tend to make dandruff problems worse. Cold and wet weather, for example, encourage the development of flakes. Dandruff can also be caused by hereditary factors.
How can dandruff be treated?
The first step is to use an anti-dandruff shampoo. Our anti-dandruff shampoo for men, for example, contains active ingredients that are particularly recommended for combating dandruff. Piroctone olamine acts on flakes and stinging thanks to its antifungal effects, while tea tree oil helps to eliminate the bacteria responsible for the proliferation of dandruff. Simple and effective.
Moisturising the scalp
For dry dandruff, it's all about hydration. The classic anti-dandruff treatment must be adapted, and coupled with dry dandruff - which is, as we used to say, dead skin particles - and oily dandruff, which is generally a hydration of the scalp: you can complete your routine with a strengthening conditioner containing moisturising ingredients. The goal? Deeply nourish. Our conditioner with kokum and shea butters, two nourishing ingredients, is ideal for this.
Remember to change regularly
For an optimal effect, we recommend using a one-month treatment. Afterwards, you can use it alternately with a classic shampoo. The use of an anti-dandruff shampoo will then become sporadic. Once a week is enough. The dandruff-free life is yours!
