Summer is too short to let long hair get in the way.
Summer is too short to let long hair get in the way. No one likes feeling like your hair is constantly stuck in your face, especially on vacation.
In the summer, long hair tends to cause even more of a hassle: it can make you feel overly warm, get in front of your eyes when you dive, and obviously requires more care after being faced with the challenges of damaging chlorine and salt. Thankfully, there are several solutions for you.
Get a haircut
Cutting your long hair on the eve of your vacation might feel like a form of cheating, but it’s still an effective solution. There’s no need to go so far as to opt for a short cut (and definitely not something as extreme as a buzzcut), but you can simply get your hair thinned out or trim the length. That way you can fresen up your long cut and spend the summer with a little shorter hair that’s more manageable and easier to tame. This also becomes easier when using a texturizing styling spray or styling cream. Note, however, that in summer, blood circulation is faster. This tends to make your hair (and beard) grow faster, so pay attention to your lengths!
Once summer is over, don’t hesitate to go back to your hairdresser to take care of cutting your ends which are often left damaged by the sun.
Give your hair some special care
While all hair needs to be groomed in the summer (especially if you go swimming often), long hair needs even more attention. The combination of sun and salt or chlorinated water dry them out, which, on long hair, often leaves your hair looking visibly damaged and frizzy. Surfer hair is only a good look for real surfers.
That means sun protection for longer hair is essential. If they tend to dry out despite your efforts, the application of an after-sun product is essential to rehydrating them after the exposure.
Nourish your hair with a shampoo specially formulated for dry or dehydrated hair. A shampoo with UV protection, like Sachajuan's Intensive Repair, will kill two birds with one stone. Useful. Couple it with a fortifying conditioner : and you’ll be sure to keep them healthy until the end of summer. Ready for the start of the school year.
Opt for a new hairstyle
The “man-bun” has a bad reputation. The internet tends to poke fun at this hairstyle. Many articles call for this trend to be stopped. Celebrities like British singer Harry Styles even gave it up. England fans have even blamed the style for the being the cause of gymnast Louis Smith’s fall on the pommel horse.
But in the summer, it’s an obvious choice to avoid being bothered by your long hair. Once tied, it’s no longer likely to bother you when you swim or fly into your eyes when you’re driving a boat, driving a top-down convertible, or hanging around somewhere. Plus it won’t keep your neck all hot and sticky anymore, all while helping you avoid getting a haircut. What more could you want?
Don't wear a swimming cap if you don't have to.
Whatever happens, do not put on a swimming cap if you’re not swimming in a municipal swimming pool or anywhere it’s where it’s mandatory. Admittedly, the cap helps you keep your hair safe and dry, but it will inevitably give you a suspicious look when its wearing is optional. It makes most people look pretty silly. It’s as if you were wearing a motorcycle helmet without riding a motorcycle, in short.
Proud bearer of long hair, now you’re ready to face your summer holidays without risk. Enjoy.
