How to make the switch to natural deodorant

The keys to letting your anti-perspirant go.
It is no longer a secret: our natural deodorant is out. It is natural, obviously. Designed not to leave (yellow or white) stains on your clothes. With a fresh fragrance too. Want to leave yellow stains on your shirt behind while keeping a fresh and lovely body odour? Before starting the shift from a classic deodorant or anti-perspirant to a natural product, here are the keys to a smooth transition without the bad smells, of course.
You might smell (in the beginning)Accepting this fact will make the transition easier. In the first days after giving up your usual deodorant or anti-perspirant, your body will need to regulate. It is possible that, once freed from anti-perspirant, your armpits will produce more sweat than usual. You'll probably smell, mainly at the end of the day. Our testers, however, all noted that they didn't have any adaptation issues. Patience.
You will sweatThis is another non-negligible point you have to keep in mind. If you are used to anti-perspirants, your life is about to change: natural deodorants are there to avoid bad smells but not to block sweat. You will therefore produce armpit sweat. Don't panic: it is a perfectly normal and natural bodily mechanism that regulates your temperature.
Don't give upDespite the little accidents that can come up in the beginning of your transition towards natural deodorants, persevere. Good things come to those who wait: once your armpits are ready, after a period of time that can last between three days and two weeks, there’s a whole new life ahead of you.
Be (very) cleanOne of the keys to success in your transition lies in the cleanliness of your armpits. Bad smells being due to the overgrowth of bacteria, impeccable hygiene will keep it in check. Clean your armpits vigorously during each shower and dry them well before applying deodorant.
Tip: if your armpits are hairy, the use of shampoo is a simple and efficient way to eliminate smell. It is particularly useful when your deodorant has let you down during the day or after strenuous exercise.
Don't overdo itWhen you start using a new deodorant, you might be tempted to apply a very heavy layer of it ensure safety. Remain moderate: first off, the more you apply, the more deposit could be left on your armpits. You also risk getting your armpits used to receiving too heavy a layer of deodorant when a simple layer would suffice. This could turn out to be fatal when you use less. Last non-negligible point: your deodorant won't last as long if you use too much of it.
Remain faithfulFinding the right natural deodorant can take time. Everyone's skin reacts differently to deodorant: a product that works for me won't necessarily work for you, and vice versa. In a way, take the time to tame your deodorant. Try it over time and importantly, give it the benefit of the doubt. Since when you start going natural, your skin needs between three days and two weeks to get used to a new formula. Don't give up on your deodorant because it doesn't work like you wish it did on the first day. Over time, you'll find the right one and you will (probably) never change it again.
