What if a spot on your forehead said a lot about your overall health? What if we could define the origin of our skin problems according to their location on the face? Such is the gist of face mapping. Read on to learn more about this popular method on the Internet and among skincare enthusiasts.

Unlike Bacardi Breezers and MP3 players, spots aren't always a distant teenage memory. On the contrary, many men still struggle with imperfections daily. That's where face mapping, a trend gaining popularity on the Internet, comes in.

Face mapping and Chinese medicine

The idea of face mapping originated in Chinese medicine. It is based on the belief that the body's different areas are all connected. A belief popularized by American Youtubers. Your face is therefore a reflection of the organs to which it is connected. As such, a spot indicates a malfunction or poor health of a specific organ. Identifying this spot's location and its interconnected body part will allow you to know what to heal and how to improve your skin's appearance.

Spots and imperfections as indicators of malfunctions

Do you have spots on your forehead or chin? It might be your digestive system sending you a message, and maybe you should try pampering it, as Indian dermatologist Bindu Sthalekar, explains it. If imperfections appear between your eyebrows, pay attention to your liver, and try to take care of it. The spots on your cheeks are linked to your lungs, while those on your temples relate to your kidneys. Spots on your nose relate to your cholesterol level. As for jawline imperfections, they may be proof of a hormonal imbalance.

Should you trust face mapping?

Although face mapping could help treat skin problems miraculously, it still lacks any form of backing by dermatologists. Does that mean you should reject it outright? Not so fast. This method is centred on a critical concept: you can't understand and prevent skin problems without considering your lifestyle. You'll never achieve perfect skin thanks to a carefully thought-out skin care routine alone.

Skin problems: the importance of habits

This is a good starting point. To avoid spots, make sure your diet is healthy and you're drinking enough water. We know it's not fun, but alcohol consumption has consequences, such as an sebum overproduction. A haircut that hangs over your forehead or a poorly trimmed beard can also become a breeding ground for bacteria. Stress and lack of sleep will play tricks on you. Remember, what happens inside often shows on the outside, whether you believe in face mapping or not.
