Do it everyday, do it well.
You’ve just woken up, and you’re about to get ready for work. You open your bathroom cabinet and you’re faced with shelves full of your favourite products. The only question remaining is the order in which you should use them. For your skincare routine to be as effective as possible, we’ve listed the preferred order it should follow. Trust us, your complexion will thank you later.
Step one: face cleanser
The foundation of any good routine and the best place to start is by your face. This will ensure your skin is clean before moving on to the next steps.
Step two: tonic lotion
If you use a you should always apply it on a clean face, directly after step one. The lotion will prepare your skin for the next products.
Step three: serums
Serums are like nutritional shots. Whether you’re a hyaluronic acid aficionado (keeps the skin hydrated), fond of vitamin C (protects against free radicals) or a niacinamide enthusiast (helps eliminate redness), use them after your tonic lotion for deeper skin penetration before moving on to the rest.
Step four: face moisturiser
The moisturiser plays a dual role: obviously, it moisturises your skin. However, it also helps ‘capture" the previously applied products in the skin, thereby forming a kind of protective layer. This also means the products you put on can keep working throughout the day
Step five: under-eye serum
Use an under-eye serum with a massaging and refreshing rollerball to focus on this area. Remember to gently tap the serum in while you let the moisturiser penetrate the rest of your face.
Step six: oils
Oils also cover your skin to capture all previously applied products in the skin, thereby increasing your routine’s effectiveness. Choose which oils to use based on your needs: some oils are recommended for dry skin types, while others are more suitable for oily or combination skins.
Step seven: sunscreen
While sunscreen is particularly useful in summer, it’s really a product you should use all year round to protect your skin from sun-induced premature ageing. This step comes last, like a final line of defence for your skin, which it is.
Extra steps: shaving and washing your beard
If you want to add to your routine, slide it in after step one. Use your cleanser, shave, and follow up with either your tonic lotion or your to soothe the skin.
If you have a beard, simply under the shower, after your face. Then, start your routine from step one, as described above.
You’re good to go and as fresh as it gets.
